NEW YORK—Kal Goldberg, a former senior managing director at FTI Consulting, has joined RLM Finsbury as partner. Based in New York, Goldberg will strengthen RLM Finsbury’s M&A practice in the US.

At FTI Consulting, Goldberg led the special situations practice within the firm’s strategic communications segment, where he directed teams focused on advising managements and boards on various financial and crisis matters. Prior to FTI, he was an investment banker with Avalon Group and worked in Hill+Knowlton's corporate and financial practice.

Goldberg has advised on a number of high-profile transactions, including representing NASDAQ/OMX in its acquisitions of Thomson Reuters' multimedia solutions businesses and the eSpeed platform; Allstate in its acquisition of Esurance and Answer Financial; KPN in its successful hostile bid for iBasis;  Constellation Energy in its investment from EDF and subsequent merger with Exelon; and the Chicago Board of Trade in its merger with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Goldberg also managed communications for the restructurings of American Suzuki Motor Corporation, Arcapita Bank and NewPage Corporation, as well as on the IPOs of FXall, RiskMetrics and NYMEX. He also has strong experience in proxy fights, senior leadership transitions, regulatory issues, board-level investigations, accounting issues and corporate governance concerns.

RLM Finsbury has most recently been representing AstraZeneca in its takeover battle with Pfizer; Holcim in its pending merger with Lafarge; and Verizon Communications in its $130 billion acquisition of Vodafone’s stake in Verizon Wireless.
