RICHMOND—CarMax, a leading retailer of used cars, has appointed Jim Lyski as chief marketing officer and senior vice president, responsible for directing the company's marketing functions, including consumer insights and strategic direction, brand, creative, digital, advertising, carmax.com, store marketing, targeted marketing, public and community relations, and internal communications. Lyski previously served as chief marketing officer of The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company and at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company.

SAN FRANCISCO - Brunswick partner Brandon Borrman has left the firm to become head of communications at data and advertising startup Quantcast. Borrman joined Brunswick in 2008 as a partner. Prior to that he was manager of corporate issues and management at Starbucks. He's also held positions at United Airlines and Centrix Financial.

SEATTLE—Outdoor gear and apparel retailer REI has added Alex Thompson as vice president of communications and public affairs, directing public relations, reputation management, corporate communications, philanthropy, community affairs and government relations. Thompson most recently served as executive vice president of corporate and public affairs in the New York office of Edelman. He also spent time in Edelman's Hong Kong and Singapore offices.

KNOXVILLE, TN—Dylan Jones has joined Scripps Networks Interactive as senior vice president of corporate communications, responsible for corporate public relations, internal communications, creative services, customer service and event marketing for the company. Jones started his career in entertainment journalism before moving into communications and public relations at MTV and VH1, Music Choice Europe, and EMI Group.
