Paul Holmes 16 May 2002

NEW YORK, May 16—The Sawyer Miller Advertising unit of Weber Shandwick Worldwide has named Timothy Ryan senior vice president and managing director of its Washington, D.C., office. Ryan most recently was executive director of Citizens for Better Medicare, a Washington-based grassroots organization, where he led a multimillion-dollar issue advocacy campaign on Medicare reform.

With particular expertise in corporate image and advocacy advertising, Sawyer Miller Advertising has mounted campaigns targeting policymakers and the public on behalf of clients such as the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, Microsoft, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and the Council For Biotechnology Information.

“Tim brings tremendous experience and talent as we deepen our presence in Washington,” said Tom Blim, chief operating officer of Sawyer Miller. “He will be a critical player in building Sawyer Miller into the preeminent corporate reputation and public policy advertising agency in the country.”

Before joining Citizens for Better Medicare, Ryan was director of advertising for Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, where he directed the association’s education and issue advocacy campaign. Earlier, he served as senior account manager at The Ridley Group, research/media consultant at Squier-Eskew-Knapp-Ochs, and campaign press secretary for Senator Joseph Biden.
