Euro RSCG Life NRP

Holmes Report

Euro RSCG Life NRP began the year as two separate agencies—biotech specialist Noonan Russo and healthcare boutique Presence Euro RSCG—briefly became Noonan Russo Presence Euro RSCG and ultimately morphed into its current identity. That may sound confusing, but with each step the firm became more tightly integrated into the Euro RSCG network, and more closely tied to sister agencies in medical advertising and related fields, so that a couple of years after being acquired, Noonan Russo is no longer a standalone firm but the lead PR-IR resource for one of the world’s largest healthcare communications agencies.
The payoff wasn’t immediate—the firm saw revenues decline slightly in 2002 to around $18.5 million, thanks largely to the non-existent IPO market—but there are indications of better things to come. The firm strengthened its ability to find links between its pharma and biotech clients with the creation of a new Madison Life Scinces unit, which will help companies with broad business development planning and will initiate product licensing and development deals between biotech and pharma companies. The firm also expanded its marketing consulting capabilities.
“Elements such as proactive media and investor networking, building our press release distribution list, analyst alerts and general counsel are highly valuable,” says one client. Others are impressed by a “strong network of contacts and excellent attention to detail” or value “their knowledge of the industry and media covering the industry.” A lone dissenters says the firm is “not pro-active enough; doesn’t drive PR strategies.”
New clients assignments came from J&J/Ethicon Products; Boehringer Ingelheim/Pharmaton; Elan; Purdue Pharmaceuticals; Regeneration Technologies; Gen-Probe International; Chiron; and Biovitrum. And the firm added work for current clients, including new assignments for Galderma and Hills Pet Nutrition. They join a list that is led by big names such as Eli Lilly and MedImmune.
The merged agency has impressive national reach, with offices in New York, San Francisco, and San Diego, and an international presence via a London office, strengthened with the addition of Carsten Edwards, who will drive marketing communications business in the U.K.
