fischerAppelt Kommunikation

Holmes Report

Founded in 1986 by brothers Andreas and Bernhard Fischer-Appelt, the firm that bears their name now has six offices in Germany and Austria — Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart and Vienna — and has grown to become one of the three largest public relations consultancies in Germany and one of the top 10 independent PR agencies in the world, offering a broad range of corporate and marketing communications services. These services include public affairs, crisis and issues management (with a traditional strength in managing environmental issues) financial communications, as well as advertising and design capabilities and a special expertise in moving pictures image communication. In addition, fischerAppelt has experience across numerous industry sectors including finance, healthcare, real estate, sports, technology, and tourism.
In every sector, the firm’s hallmark is a combination of a strategic approach with a high level of creativity — atypical for the German PR business, which is not very fond of creative PR strategies.
The past months have seen fischerAppelt provide additional services. With founding the fischerAppelt Federation of Ideas the agency took a major step towards becoming Germanys best positioned communication group. The Federation of Ideas combines specialized agencies for the disciplines of public relations, advertising, moving image, corporate consulting and design and thereby bundles the entire range of expertise when it comes to integrated communication. fischerAppelt includes the agencies fischerAppelt, ziegler Financial Communications, the design agency Ligalux, the management consultancy fischerAppelt, profiling, as well as the agency for moving image fischerAppelt, tv media and the advertising agency fischerAppelt, furore – which was also founded in 2008 and is currently based in Hamburg and Berlin.
Those moves fueled another year of impressive growth for the firm, which ended 2008 with fee income of €26.8 million, up by more than 11 percent over the course of the year. In addition to growth in moving image communications and business consulting sectors, the group’s PR, design and advertising business all enjoyed robust growth. There was new business from Daimler, the German Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit), Novartis, the Federal Ministry of Food Agriculture & Consumer Protection, Deutsche Telekom and BDI (the Federation of German Industries).
Andreas and Bernhard are joined at the helm of the company by Lars-Christian Cords, partner and head of the Berlin office; Sabine Seifert, leader of the healthcare practice; brothers Nico and Ulf Ziegler, managing directors of fischerAppelt, ziegler and Ralf Holterhoff, chief financial officer and managing director of fischerAppelt Kommunikation, München.
The firm also added three top-tier journalists to its leadership teamt: Harald Ehren, a respected business journalist who was a founding member of the German Financial Times and is now in charge of developing a corporate content division; Mirjam Stegherr, former chief editor of public affairs magazine politik&kommunikation  and Sophie Buening, formerly a reporter with German newspaper Die Zeit.
fischerAppelt ranked number one among the Best Continental Consultancies to Work For in our annual survey of employees throughout the region. Those employees describe the firm as “very well respected, a trendsetter within the industry” and insist: “I wouldn't work in any other PR firm. Our firm is full of specialists who work very well together according to clients’ demands. I am one of those, and I would go back to the client side because I dont think that I can find that kind of environment in any other PR firm.”
fischerAppelt Kommunikation is partner in Public Relations Organisation International, a network of independent public relations and marketing companies, that includes many of the market leaders in Europe as well as a growing network of North American and Asia-Pacific consultancies. Andreas Fischer-Appelt was named vice president of PROI earlier this year for the second time, and fischerAppelt continues to work on several cross-border assignments with its partners.
