Lifestyle and consumer PR

Los Angeles

Phyllis Klein & Associates, long regarded as one of the best consumer PR boutiques in the L.A. market, has earned national recognition over the past couple of years for its work on behalf of Toyota’s new environmentally-friendly Prius, an assignment that drew on its entertainment industry connections to showcase the car at the Oscars and other prominent venues. But ask agency founder Phyllis Klein for her personal highlight of the year and she will point to the launch of a line of luxury pet couture for Oscar Newman. A lifelong lover of small dogs, Klein was able to combine her passion and her professional skills on a program built around celebrity pet owners—notable Oscar Newman clients include Star Jones, Paula Abdul, Paris Hilton, and Jessica Simpson—that generated significant television coverage.

The firm is best known for its work marketing to women. Klein held in-house positions with Clairol and Max Factor, where she supervised celebrity-driven publicity campaigns, integrated marketing, and branding assignments—and learned a lot about what clients are looking about from a PR firm. Today, her agency works with beauty, health, home decorating and other lifestyle brands, which turn to PK&A for media relations expertise, celebrity outreach, strategic thinking and creative tactics, and for its expertise in cause marketing, sampling programs and wide range of writing and creative services.

PK&A has its headquarters in L.A., the center of the entertainment industry, but also operates an office in New York, the media capital of the world, led by luxury marketing expert Rhonda Racz. Major clients include the California Optometric Association, P8N8 Skincare
