Full-service PR firm

Corporate reputation is determined first and foremost by corporate behaviour and corporate behaviour is a reflection of corporate values, so any attempt to manage a company’s reputation must begin with an assessment and analysis of its values, and the extent to which they are applied at every level of the organization. Wellcom understand the importance of values in developing a strategic communications platform and the messaging to support it, and applies a proprietary process it calls the “Value Approach,” identifying corporate and brand values and building on them to create a consistent, timeless reputation. That provides the underpinning for Wellcom’s work in change management (including M&A activity) and crisis communications, and provides a strategic foundation for the firm’s more traditional PR work, which includes internal and external communications, events and online communications.

In 2003, Wellcom pulled together a group of experts to analyze the corporate values of French companies and ultimately to create a “Corporate Values Index,” which now includes an analysis of more than 600 French companies. Last year, the firm, along with 11 other members of the Ecco network of independent public relations firms, began an analysis of the corporate values of more than 3,000 companies worldwide. The results of this “International Corporate Values Index” will be made public later this year, strengthening the firm’s reputation as a thought leader in this area.

Founder Thierry Wellhoff launched Wellcom in 1981 after working at Agence France-Presse and Eurocom. The remainder of the leadership team has a blend of corporate and agency experience: managing director Philippe Lucas spent time at American Express and the Ted Bates Group; partner Marie Charrière previously worked at a Lyon-based PR firm and now directs the firm strategic planning for media relations; consulting directors Stéphanie Bastide and Hubert Desmarest are veterans of Burson-Marsteller and Euro RSCG respectively and focus on public affairs and crisis communications in Bastide’s case and corporate and consumer (Demarest).

With turnover of about €4.2 million and 42 full-time employees, Wellcom is one of the largest independent public relations firms in France, and enjoyed very healthy 15 percent growth last year, with new business coming from BenQ and BenQ Mobile, Gateway, Aastra Matra, ebookers, PCM and OCP. They join a client list that includes ACR Logistics, Acxiom, Calderys, D&B Gazinox, LeMonde.fr, Randstad, Reed Exhibitions, Saint-Gobain, Syntec Conseil en Management, and Technomedia, The firm was identified as one of three “agencies of the future” by Ballester research in 2004, and was also named a leader in terms of creativity, team commitment and customer satisfaction.

Wellcom is board member of the international Ecco network, which includes representatives in more than 40 countries.
