Weber Shandwick’s Seattle office has an exciting opportunity for an innovative and motivated Group Manager or Account Director to support social impact and health clients in all aspects of communications. Join us in working across these sectors for leading global health and development-focused public and private organizations including foundations, nonprofit organizations, and corporations who place an emphasis on sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. The ideal candidate is a team player with global health and development sector experience, strong writing and communication skills, strategic thinking and creative problem solving abilities, and refined project and team management skills. S/he has a strong understanding of all aspects of integrated marketing including research, message development, planning and implementation; as well as new PR tools, especially in the digital and social media realm. Issue expertise and field experience in global food security and/or agriculture is a plus. Experience in fintech and financial inclusion also is a plus.

Job Description:

The Group Manager or Account Director will be responsible for managing local and global teams and client engagements for a diverse set of social impact and health clients. Account management responsibilities include program and project management, strategy definition and oversight, research management, communications plan development, content production management, written materials and execution/implementation for different clients and projects within the practice. In addition, s/he is responsible for staffing, team management, budget management and active contribution to the Health & Social Impact Practice new business activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as day-to-day client relationship manager for local and global strategic communications projects and campaigns, particularly executive engagements and event activations.
  • Establish and sustain credibility in both communications capabilities and issue expertise
  • Project manage internal teams – across national and international markets – to deliver on the work and steward a common client experience from a strategic lens, i.e. are we delivering on the goals and engaging our target audiences?
  • Develop and project manage work plans to meet deadlines while delivering proactively and reactively based on client needs
  • Support all phases of the strategic communications process: planning, production, distribution, optimization, and measurement analysis 
  • Lead with an integrated mindset including research, creative positioning, traditional PR, executive visibility, content marketing, issue advocacy and expertise, community outreach, influencer engagement, paid media, social media programs, etc.
  • Contribute proactively with creative ideas and approaches to client challenges
  • Manage integrated communications teams to deliver success at global and in-market events
  • Create client content (draft plans, fact sheets, talking points, strategic recommendations, message architectures, blog and editorial content, etc.)
  • Serve as strategic reviewer or editor on content produced by junior team members.
  • Partner with senior leadership to provide strategic and tactical counsel to clients and global integrated team, while managing implementation of multiple projects, timelines and budgets
  • Effectively manage/mentor/oversee the work of junior team members
  • Participate in new business and staff development

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • BA or BS in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, International Development, International Relations or related field
  • 6+ years of PR experience required; agency or foundation experience preferred
  • Proven client relations and consulting experience
  • Capability to design and execute issue-focused communications
  • Experience working with nonprofits or grantees to build out strategic communications plans
  • Excellent communication, writing and editing skills are essential
  • Excellent presentation skills: written and verbal
  • Excellent team contribution, collaboration and leadership skills; experience leading with creative solutions
  • Extremely detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be a team player
  • Proven team and individual management experience
  • Skilled project manager; ability to manage complex projects and budgets (global/cross-market experience a plus)
  • Strong understanding of and experience in media relations
  • Strong understanding for new PR tools, especially in the digital, social media and creative realms

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience working with or in developing markets preferred
  • Experience working in global food security or related issue(s) a plus
  • Issues or crisis management experience a plus
  • Experience supporting/managing a major health/global health and/or global development public relations account a plus
