Detroit Intern - Weber Shandwick

A post-graduate internship at Weber Shandwick is intended to provide a true learning experience along with the opportunity to observe public relations professionals in a business environment. In general, interns will provide entry-level professional services, under supervision, as appropriate to the day-to-day needs of the office/account teams. This is an incredible learning opportunity and a chance to work with some major brands across the automotive, healthcare and banking industries.

• Assisting team members with client-related projects
• Various writing and research assignments
• Media relations outreach, including writing pitches and making follow-up contact with editors to secure media coverage
• Supporting digital/social media activities for accounts
• Building and updating media databases, editorial calendars, speaking and awards matrices
• Compiling and researching press clippings
• Assisting in special projects and providing general account administrative support
• Participating in brainstorming and staff meetings
• Attend training from senior professional personnel in planning and carrying out activities and assignments

Qualifications
 SKILLS REQUIRED
• Strong interest in public relations and integrated digital campaigns and desire to pursue a career in the field
• Excellent oral, written communications, research and presentation skills
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Attention to details and deadlines; accuracy and thoroughness are especially important
• Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed instructions
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Computer experience in Microsoft Office; knowledge of Factiva and other research databases a plus
• Experience and interest in today’s digital/social media landscape
• Enthusiastic and eager to learn; team-player with an “anything is possible” approach
• Professional and able to be flexible in a fast-paced, always changing environment
• Available to work 40 hours per week

EXPERIENCE:
Ideally, the candidate will have had 2 - 3 previous public relations internships completed in traditional and/or digital.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, PR or related field
