Public Affairs Manager - APO Group

APO Group Advisory division

A leading media relations consultancy and press release distribution service founded in 2007, APO Group ( and seeks to hire a Public Affairs manager for its Advisory division to organize and manage Public Affairs projects across the globe for its 350+ clients.

Main purpose of role
Lead the strategic planning, commercial proposal preparation and delivery of APO Group Advisory Clients external communications, brand profile and public affairs work.

Contribute to APO’s Presence and influence in Africa, the UK, and other Strategic Markets

Internationally by establishing and maintaining high level contacts in APO target prospect and customer base for the Advisory division.

Act as a deputy to the VP of APO Group Advisory Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the VP Advisory Division, develop long term Clients communications strategy in support of their Strategic and development plans
  • Lead on managing all aspects of APO’s clients’ external communications, brand profile and audience engagement strategy
  • Coordinate with APO Group internal PR delivery team the agreed communications plans across media/PR, digital communications, public affairs, marketing, sales, brand, events management, publications and advocacy across its relevant markets and international target audiences
  • Lead responsibility on deepening and projecting APO Group Clients new brand positioning around disruptive innovation, community empowerment and intelligent development
  • Lead responsibility on assigned Client’s public affairs and government relations plans and activities
  • Key role in delivery of work in this area including external relationship management
  • Act as external spokesperson for APO Group when required to represent the VP Advisory
  • Work closely with APO Group Finance and IT department
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations, predominantly related to prospects/customer proposals
  • Provide analytical updates to clients
  • Manage Clients’ budgets when necessary
  • Select and manage external suppliers such as agencies and freelancers as required

  • Able to range across developing / fixing some basic foundations of organizational communications infrastructure through to creative and agenda
  • Enthusiasm and proven ability to engage with and communicate issues relevant to the organizational strategy across international development, innovation and social change (though a specific background in international development is not essential)
  • Good nose’ for news, social media trends and the political / communications zeitgeist
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and secure influence with policymakers, decision
  • makers and stakeholders in areas such as business, academia and the worlds of innovation and new technology
  • Proven ability to have oversight of the commissioning, writing and editing of inspiring, creative and compelling content for a wide range of audiences and channels
  • Generating strategies and an entrepreneurial, go-getting mind set
  • Ability to understand and work across a wide range of cultural and political contexts reflecting APO Group international presence
  • English and French with (not mandatory) Portuguese or Arabic language skills
  • Knowledge of the communications and political context of Africa

The position is home-based (telework) but will require frequent travelling.

A professional laptop and a priority pass (Airport Lounge Access Worldwide) will be provided. All expenses will be covered.

You will have to register as an independent contractor.

Compensation: 54k€ per year. Negotiable according to experience.
