As a PR Specialist, you’ll serve as a spokesperson—responding promptly and resourcefully to daily inquiries from print, broadcast, and digital media to: promote funds, services, and research; advocate on issues of importance to clients; and express the company’s viewpoints. You will help develop and deliver responses to breaking market news, regulatory changes, industry developments, and trends that impact the company and its stakeholders. By forming and cultivating strong relationships with members of the news media, you’ll reinforce this company’s role as a respected thought leader, employer-of-choice and, most importantly, caretaker of our clients’ investments. 

 

The Public Relations Specialist Role: 

 

  • Prepare strategic plans, contribute to coverage and activity reports, train and prepare executives for media engagements, and serve as a media counselor to internal partners
  • Respond promptly to daily inquiries from the news media and acts as an accessible, responsive, credible, quotable, and resourceful spokesperson. Employs persuasion and influence skills effectively to maintain the reputation of the company, promote its services, and achieve its goals through the media.  
  • Nurture working relationships with relevant members of the news media and cultivate new press contacts. Develop specific plans to obtain positive media coverage of broad corporate priorities or specific business and marketing initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain effective, strong, collaborative relationships with all relevant stakeholders in the company in order to develop, plan, and execute media activities.
  • Develop pitches, press releases and other press materials that are highly professional, effective, creative, and accurate. 

The Ideal Public Relations Specialist Has:

  • Undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, PR or related area of study required. Graduate degree in communications or business preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of PR experience, either at an agency or in-house required. 7-10 years of PR experience in the mutual fund or investment industry preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently on multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of financial services industry, particularly mutual fund investing and financial markets.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
