Media Relations

Lead Media is a specialty group comprised of 225 expert media strategists and storytellers around the globe.  Our mission is to provide excellent media relations strategy that achieves our clients’ communications goals.  We work tirelessly to build deep, trusted and lasting relationships with journalists – be it a top-tier journalist or an influential blogger.  Lead Media members are primarily imbedded in practice areas and are networked globally via our intranet.  We share media intelligence in real time and work in tandem to identify and manage media opportunities.

Additionally, the New York office is home to a dedicated Lead Media Corporate group focused on helping clients shape their narrative in agenda-setting, top-tier business media such as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, The Financial Times, Fortune, Forbes and Bloomberg BusinessWeek. Lead Media Corporate has the honor of handling media outreach for some of the world’s leading brands and also engineers executive visibility campaigns for CEO and other C-suite executives across an integrated platform of media, both traditional and digital.  

Currently Lead Media Corporate is seeking a Junior Associate (6 months internship experience) or Associate (1+ yrs professional related experience.)  The following is a general outline of primary responsibilities.  In addition, requisite attributes include a passion for media relations, a talent for storytelling, a nose for news, curious intellect and desire to work with the best and brightest in the business. Experience with financial services and/or consumer clients is a plus.


Client Relations

  • Communicate with clients on daily basis  
  • Provide basic client counsel
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations
  • Conduct and manage the flow of research necessary to analyze client issues

Media Relations

  • Monitor media outlets for coverage of client news and competitor developments
  • Help to track and maintain media placements
  • Draft media relations materials
  • Generate story ideas and topic angles
  • Understand industry issues that directly and indirectly affect the client
  • Pitch to clients' to top-tier media
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with journalists
  • Demonstrate knowledge of media pitching and tour scheduling
  • Manage speakers bureau activities
  • Manage external vendors

Writing Skills

  • Develop proposals, releases, customer profiles, bylined articles and other press materials
  • Proof and edit client related documents as needed
  • Compose basic media plans and contribute to plan development processes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Relevant internship/full-time work experience
  • Passion for/experience with media relations
  • Available to start in December 2017 or January 2018 (no May 2018 grads please)

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to juggle multiple client needs
  • Ability to communicate information effectively and accurately, verbally or in writing
  • A high level of integrity and sensitivity to confidential information
  • A strong work ethic and an ability to be a self-starter
  • Computer proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Collaborative work style
