WASHINGTON, DC—The Glover Park Group has hired Capitol Hill veteran John Hughes (pictured) as a senior vice president in the government affairs practice, based in GPG’s Washington, DC, office. Hughes was most recently senior policy advisor to House Democratic whip Steny Hoyer on financial services, trade, manufacturing, small business, housing, and consumer protection issues. Previously, John he as counsel to the House financial services committee and, prior to joining the committee’s majority staff in 2007, was managing director of tax advocacy at the National Council of State Housing Agencies.

NEW YORK—Edelman has named Cassel Kroll vice president, media strategy, for Edelman Digital. Kroll will focus on the strategic integration of paid media throughout all digital and social programs and will report to Liz Lee Rzepecki, general manager, Edelman Digital, New York. Kroll was the director of social media strategy at Mindshare where he was responsible for creating and developing paid, owned and earned social media strategies and tactics for client brands, including Unilever and BP brands.

BOSTON—Greenough has promoted Amy McHugh to vice president, account services. She will continue to lead accounts across consumer, healthcare, professional services and technology spaces. Before joining Greenough, McHugh had an 11-year career as a broadcast journalist at network affiliates across New England.

PORTSMOUTH, NH—Calypso Communications has promoted Sarah Grazier to senior public relations manager.Grazier helps direct PR, media, and blog strategies for some of the agency’s largest clients active in utility, private equity, renewable energy, retail, and manufacturing sectors. Fitzsimmons joins MFD Communications after 12 years at Knight Capital Group, most recently as managing director, media relations. She has nearly 20 years of experience in media and public relations, as well as corporate, executive, internal and marketing communications.
