WASHINGTON —APCO Worldwide has acquired The Tembo Group, a New York-based social impact advisory firm.

Denielle Sachs, a former APCO employee who founded Tembo, will serve as global head of Tembo under the APCO umbrella. Between working at APCO and launching Tembo in 2015, Sachs led McKinsey & Company's global corporate citizen strategy.

Tembo client director Elizabeth Duncan-Watt will stay on at the firm as senior associated director. The team will also include Tembo experts in corporate sustainability, impact measurement, philanthropy and specific issues such as education, workforce development and conservation.

“We are continuing to strategically expand our ability and bandwidth to provide corporate advisory and management consulting services to help clients analyze their social impact, opportunities and risks,” said APCO founder and executive chairman Margery Kraus.

“From the beginning, APCO’s purpose has always been to create significant opportunities or solve important problems through creative collaboration for its clients, and whenever possible, find solutions that contribute to a better world. The addition of Tembo will greatly augment APCO’s capabilities to help philanthropists, nonprofits, companies and governments to earn their license to lead sustainably and accountably, addressing the long-term concerns of society as a whole.”
