LONDON--IT security giant AVG Technologies has called in Waggener-Edstrom to handle global and UK PR duties.

The firm secures the business, estimated at around $250K, following a competitive pitch. It succeeds MSLGroup, which previously handled the account.

Waggener Edstrom will be responsible for developing and implementing global strategy, content and campaigns, as well as co-ordinating AVG’s network of agencies.

The remit extends across all AVG products with a particular focus on mobile, SMB and consumer internet security, products.

In the UK, the agency will lead media campaigns designed to engage key influencers and extend AVG’s reach into new communities.

“We are delighted to be working with Waggener Edstrom for our public relations activities,” said Ricardo Adame, Corporate VP of global public relations at AVG. “We are evolving our approach to communications and we selected WE as key strategic partner due to its ability to provide strategic counsel and offer an integrated approach that connects to sales.”

The Czech company recently reported strong earnings, after listing on the New York Stock Exchange at the beginning of this year. AVG is best known for its free anti-virus software, which is regularly rated as the best in the market.

The company's encouraging Q3 earnings are seen as vindication of a diversification strategy that now includes a broad suite of products, including technology that increases computer speed and efficiency and numerous privacy services.
