NEW YORK—Burson-Marsteller has hired Alan Sexton as New York market leader and member of the US leadership team. Sexton will report to US CEO Dave DenHerder and be responsible for the oversight and continued growth of the firm’s 200-person New York office, the largest in the Burson-Marsteller global network.

Sexton comes to Burson-Marsteller from public affairs and corporate communications firm Global Strategy Group, where he had served as executive vice president of communications since 2011. Prior to joining Global Strategy Group, he led the public affairs practice at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide in New York. Earlier in his career, Sexton spent several years with The Harbour Group, a public affairs and lobbying firm based in Washington, DC.

Sexton is an expert in corporate reputation, crisis management, brand positioning and influencer engagement and has managed US and international assignments for clients such as American Express, BP, Ford Motor Company, DHL, DoubleClick, LexisNexis and Pitney Bowes.

HIs appointment follows several recent senior hires by Burson-Marsteller in the US, including US president Michael Law, executive vice president Bill Orr and US chief strategy officer Thomas Gensemer.
