LOS ANGELES—Relativity Media, a film and television production and distribution company, has hired Hewlett Packard veteran David Shane as executive vice president of corporate communications.

Shane will report to CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and president Tucker Tooley and will be responsible for developing and directing the company’s communication strategy, overseeing media relations and serving as a communications adviser to the executive team. He will also partner with the company’s film, television, sports, music, digital, home entertainment and international divisions.

Shane makes the move to Relativity from Hiltzik Strategies, a communications consulting firm that represents celebrities including Katie Couric, Glenn Beck, and Justin Bieber. Shane had been charged with creating a west coast presence for the firm.

He had left his role as vice president of communications at Juniper Networks in September of 2012. Before that, he was vice president of global communications at HP. He has also held senior communications roles at International Creative Management and Comcast, and headed Weber Shandwick's Los Angeles office.
