PALO ALTO, CA--HP has named Henry Gomez, a longtime aide of CEO Meg Whitman, as its new chief communications officer.

Gomez, who will also take on an EVP role and sit on HP's executive council, fills the CCO position that was vacated by Bill Wohl last year. HP veteran Lynn Anderson had been leading communications responsibilities on an interim basis, following a tumultuous period that saw HP CEO Leo Apotheker replaced by former eBay CEO Whitman.

Gomez spent most of the last decade working at eBay, where he served in a variety of roles including SVP for corporate communications and president of Skype.

More recently, Gomez ran his own consulting business, and worked on Whitman's 2010 campaign for governor of California.

Last year, the Holmes Report revealed that HP had slashed its corporate PR agency roster, dropping international firms Bite Communications and Weber Shandwick, and transferring duties to Burson-Marsteller.
