SAN FRANCISCO — In-house communications veteran Jim Prosser has been named Edelman’s managing director of corporate affairs & advisory services for the US Western region.

In the newly created role, Prosser will oversee corporate affairs across the firm’s San Francisco Bay Area, Pacific Northwest and Southern California offices, working with leaders on clients’ corporate strategy, narrative and reputation. He will be based in San Francisco starting Jan. 20 and report to corporate affairs & advisory services chair Jim O’Leary.

Prosser most recently spent three years as SoFi's head of communications and public policy, where he set a strategy that helped grow the consumer financial technology firm.

Prevoiusly, he ran corporate, revenue, and policy communications at Twitter, helping guide the company's narrative through high-profile moments including its IPO and the return of co-founder Jack Dorsey as CEO. Before Twitter, Prosser managed corporate communications at Google with a focus on finance, treasury, and intellectual property issues, including global litigation totaling billions of dollars.

"Jim brings incredible versatility to Edelman in both his experience and skill set. He is widely respected within the world of communications as someone who pairs forward thinking with decisive action," O’Leary said. "I know our clients will benefit greatly from his counsel and we're thrilled to have him as part of our leadership team."

Prosser's hiring is part of a larger expansion of Edelman's corporate affairs division. Last week, the firm announced the creation of a new unit within the practice, Edelman Business Marketing, that specializes in helping B2B companies execute more sophisticated marketing plans.
