SYDNEY--Lenovo has hired Weber Shandwick to develop and execute a social media strategy that will drive the company’s marketing and communications initiatives for the year.

The move comes as the Chinese electronics company is looking to grow its business among SMBs, enterprise, government and education markets in Australia and New Zealand.  Weber Shandwick’s remit will initially focus on building a social media-driven small business community alongside Lenovo’s senior marketing team.

Lenovo previously managed its social media properties in-house. Danielle Uskovic, environment and social media manager for Lenovo Australia and New Zealand, said Weber Shandwick was selected for its digital and traditional PR experience and storytelling capabilities.

Gartner recently named Lenovo the top PC maker, bumping Hewlett-Packard to second place.
