REDMOND, WA — The reporting structure for Microsoft’s comms team will shift following today’s leaked memo from CEO Steve Ballmer that brought to light key changes in the company's marketing leadership.

Frank Shaw, VP of corporate communications, will now report into Microsoft’s new head of marketing Tami Reller, who will co-lead the function with Mark Penn. Shaw previously reported into former CMO Chris Capossela.

“Chris had two roles, leading central marketing and running our consumer channels group,” Shaw told the Holmes Report. “Given the growing nature of that business he will focus on the sales aspect only.”

Penn, former global head of Burson-Marsteller, joined Microsoft last year in a senior strategic role reporting into Ballmer. It is understood he worked as a consultant with the communications team prior to this.
