CHICAGO — Global Myopia Awareness Coalition, a new organization created to boost public awareness of childhood nearsightedness, has selected Golin to serve as its lead agency in the US.
The agency, whose work on the account started June 1, was chosen following a competitive review. The coalition launched earlier this year in response to the rise in childhood myopia, which can lead to other eye problems when undiagnosed.
Golin is charged with establishing GMAC’s communications strategy for raising awareness of childhood myopia through research, education and promotion. Consumers, governments, NGOs and healthcare professionals are all targets of the effort, Golin said in announcing the win.
GMAC is a collaboration between the ophthalmology industry and the World Council of Optometry. Twelve companies are currently providing financial support.
