MUMBAI — Pradipta Bagchi has been named chief communications officer for Tata Sons, the holding group behind the $100bn Tata empire.
Bagchi takes on the top communications role at Tata after serving as global head of corporate communications at subsidiary company TCS since 2005. Earlier this year, TCS CEO N. Chandrasekaran was elevated to chairman of Tata Sons, following the dramatic removal of Cyrus Mistry last year.
Meanwhile, Debasis Ray — who emerged as the key communications figure in the public battle that ensued between Tata and Mistry — will retain his position as head of corporate communications and public relations at Tata Trusts, the largest shareholder in Tata Sons, and will continue to support Tata Group communications on an ongoing basis.
"Pradipta brings extensive experience as a Communication professional," said Chandrasekaran in a statement. "As the group chief communications officer, he will play a key role in driving seamless communication experience across the Tata group as well as create engagement with stakeholders. Having worked with Pradipta for a decade, I know that his energy and experience will be very valuable in this area."
Bagchi was an editor and reporter The Times of India, The Economic Times and Business Standard prior to joining TCS.
