MUNICH — Siemens has concluded its search for a new communications chief, hiring Clarissa Haller from Credit Suisse to take on one of Germany's highest-profile public relations roles.

Haller succeeds Stephan Heimbach, who stepped down in March. Last year, Siemens slashed its 600-strong German communications workforce by 10%, as part of a broader corporate restructuring.

Since Heimbach's departure, communications has been oversee on an interim basis by president and CEO Joe Kaeser, to whom Haller will now report. She joins from Credit Suisse in Zurich, where she spent one year as head of corporate communications. Prior to that, Haller spent eight years as ABB's head of group communications.

"As one of Europe’s most distinguished communicators and with extensive industry knowhow, she brings everything we at Siemens would wish for in our communications function," said Kaeser.

However, government affairs will not form part of Haller's remit. The function is to be integrated into Siemens' governance and markets department, and will be led by Dr Udo Niehage on an interim basis.

"Early engagement with regulatory topics and so-called government-to-government business are of growing importance for the successful implementation of our company strategy," explained Kaeser. "Siemens is taking account of this development and will intensively align its activities accordingly."
