LONDON—Stephen Jolly has been named director of media and communications at the Ministry of Defence. He joins from the University of Cambridge, where he has been director of external affairs and communications since 2005.  His previous appointments include senior roles with Regus, Luxembourg-based Clearstream International, Japanese investment bank Nomura and HSBC Holdings. 

Reporting to Permanent Secretary Jon Thompson, Jolly will be responsible for communications for the Ministry, the Armed Forces and their operations, joint organisations and the Defence agencies, leading a team of more than 150 civilian and military staff".

Jolly’s 25-year business career has spanned consumer advertising, lobbying and corporate communications. He was formerly an instructor on the Military Information Support Operations Course at the UK's Defence Intelligence & Security School, Chicksands.
