MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--Security software player Symantec has consolidated the global PR business for its flagship Norton brand with Edelman.

The development sees Edelman take charge of PR duties for Symantec's consumer business unit, which includes Norton, across 35 countries worldwide. The assignment is understood to be worth upwards of $2m.

The firm previously handled the business in multiple markets in the EMEA and the Americas, including the US and UK. Edelman has been working with Norton, the best known of Symantec's software security brands, since 2008. 

"Norton is a global company that needs a global partner to help us communicate consistently and clearly with consumers around the world," said Lorraine Hamby, senior director of worldwide public relations, at Symantec's consumer business unit.

"Edelman brings a powerful mix of consumer marketing prowess and technology acumen to the table, and has shown that they can scale to meet the growing needs of our business."

According to its most recent quarterly filing, consumer accounted for 31 percent of Symantec's revenues. The company reported earnings of $6.73bn for its 2012 fiscal year, up nine percent on the year before.
