SAN FRANCISCO — The popular workplace tool Slack that has been the darling of media attention in recent months, has brought on Julia Blystone to lead communications.

Earlier this year, Slack was valued at nearly $3bn — making it among the coveted technology "unicorns," companies with billion-dollar valuations. Slack has soared in popularity in recent months and has been widely adopted by businesses. Salesforce, Intuit and AirBnB are among the customers it lists on its website.

Blystone joined the startup as head of PR and communications this month, according to her LinkedIn profile. She was previously communications lead at payments startup Tilt, as well as CMO for media platform Blinkx. Before that, she was VP at OutCast.

Slack did not provide a comment for this story. Earlier this month, Slack CEO and serial entrepreneur Stewart Butterfield emphasized the importance of hiring people with empathy in an interview with the New York Times.
