While some might baulk at overseeing one of the UK’s most challenging PR assignments, Jane Lawrie’s pedigree as one of Europe’s most experienced corporate communicators is standing her in good stead at Tesco, where she has proved able to handle complex issues across diverse markets for a company that hasn’t always been seen as a paragon of corporate virtue.

Lawrie became group communications director in late 2016, joining the Tesco executive committee, with a brief to rebuild trust in the brand and its businesses. As CEO Dave Lewis said at her appointment: “Over the last eighteen months we’ve made good progress in restoring trust in our brand and our business, and Jane will help to continue this improvement. She has huge expertise and experience, as well as extremely strong values.”

Lawrie has more than 25 years’ experience of corporate, financial, colleague and digital communications, having joined Tesco from Coca-Cola, where she led European public affairs and communications. Lawrie has significant experience in advising businesses on trust and corporate reputation through previous roles at Diageo and Boots the Chemist.
