WASHINGTON, DC — Revenues from FTI Consulting's strategic communications unit grew by 10.4% on a constant currency basis in 1Q 2016 to $45.1m, compared to $42.1m one year ago.

The increase, which was 7.1% once currency fluctuations are included, was attributed to "increased project-based revenues in North America and EMEA, predominantly in public affairs and financial communications, which was partially offset by a decrease in revenues from crisis mandates."

However, profits were down slightly to $5.8 million, for a 13.7% margin, compared to 13.5% in 1Q 2015.

The improved performance comes after FTI Consulting's communications unit was effectively flat in 2015, as per the Holmes Report's 2016 Global PR Agency Rankings. The division reported fee income of $190m last year.
