AVON, CT—Magellan Health Services, a leading healthcare management organization, has named David Carter as senior vice president of marketing and communications. He will be responsible for conceptualizing, developing and implementing a proactive, strategically-driven marketing and communications function in support of Magellan's business strategy.
Carter will be accountable for comprehensive internal and external communications, including marketing and executive communications, public relations, corporate brand management and community relations. He will report to René Lerer, chairman and CEO.
Carter comes to Magellan after a decade at Aetna, where he most recently served as vice president of corporate communications and led the development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies to enhance corporate visibility and brand reputation.
Prior to joining Aetna, Carter served in a number of senior communications and public affairs roles in Washington, D.C. He was appointed by former President Bill Clinton to serve as vice president for the office of communications at the Export-Import Bank of the U.S. He was also deputy general manager and senior vice president of The Wexler Group, a unit of Hill & Knowlton and a staff member in the U.S. House of Representatives.
