FAIRFIELD, CT—After two years as president of GE’s NBC Universal digital media unit, former GE public relations chief Beth Comstock is returning to the parent company senior vice president and chief marketing officer for GE. Comstock, who served as CMO from 2003 to 2005, will lead GE’s organic growth initiatives, including marketing, sales and communications.
She will also direct two strategic growth initiatives for GE: developing cross-business digital initiatives, focusing initially on consumer health; and establishing a network of external partners to extend GE’s leadership in environmental technologies. She will report to GE chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt.
For the past two years, Comstock has been president of integrated media at NBC Universal where she oversaw television ad sales, marketing and research. Comstock also led the Company’s digital strategy, business and distribution efforts.
“Beth did a great job defining and growing NBC Universal’s digital efforts,” says Immelt. “Under Beth’s leadership NBCU created industry-leading advertising innovations for customers, will reach its $1 billion goal for digital revenues in 2008, a year ahead of schedule, and, in partnership with News Corporation, developed the premium video service hulu. I want her to use the same approach to drive digital excellence across GE. She also will explore technology and funding partnerships to bring new innovations to market using GE’s distribution channels, reach and brand.”
Dan Henson, currently GE’s chief marketing officer, has been named president and CEO of GE Capital Solutions, a global provider of leasing, lending, and capital investment products.
