NeuStar has named Marc Abshire director of global media relations. Abshire will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing NeuStar’s image, visibility, and reputation among international, national, and trade media.

STERLING, VA—NeuStar has named Marc Abshire director of global media relations. Abshire will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing NeuStar’s image, visibility, and reputation among international, national, and trade media. He will develop and implement media strategies for the company and its executives, and oversee its news bureau. Abshire was most recently director of Eastern region communications for Northrop Grumman’s electronic systems sector. Before joining Northrop Grumman, he was a career Air Force officer.

SPOKANE, Wa—Potlatch Corporation, one of the nation’s largest real estate investment trusts, has named Mark Benson vice president of public affairs. Benson, who has been Potlatch’s director of public affairs since 2004, will have company-wide responsibility for government relations, media and communications, community affairs and public policy issues and will report to president and CEO Michael Covey. Benson first joined Potlatch in 1974 as a field forester.

VANCOUVER, BC—Norsemont Mining has appointed Brian Soregaroli as vice president of  corporate communications. Soregaroli will provide expertise in corporate communications, investor relations, finance and marketing. Soregaroli has spent 20 years in the mining industry, most recently as manager of investor communications with Yukon Zinc Corporation where he was responsible for institutional and retail presentations, financings and analyst tours.

STAMFORD, CT—MeadWestvaco Corporation has appointed Jason Thompson as director of investor relations. He will be responsible for overseeing MeadWestvaco’s investor relations activities, including the management of financial communications with investors and securities analysts. Thompson joins MeadWestvaco from The Abernathy MacGregor Group, where he served as managing director. Earlier, he worked for investor relations firm Lippert/Heilshorn Associates.

SALT LAKE CITY—The National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts has named Jeffrey Chappell as senior public relations manager. Prior to joining NACVA, Chappell was a public relations associate with Snapp Norris Group PR, a technology public relations agency in Salt Lake City. He has also worked in public relations positions for organizations such as the American Red Cross, Pebble Creek Ski Area, and Comprehensive Mental Health.

NEW YORK—Bruce Brodoff has joined the Alliance for Downtown New York as director of public affairs. He had been a public affairs officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Securityand earlier served as vice president of public affairs for the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
