SOUTH BEND, IN—Julie Hail Flory, associate director of news and information at the University of Notre Dame for the past two years, has been promoted to director of public relations. In her new role, Flory will oversee a team of five writers and media specialists to help proactively tell the Notre Dame story. In addition to media relations efforts, Flory’s team will oversee the day-to-day management of the Notre Dame home page and social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. Flory also will work with Notre Dame spokesman Dennis Brown on crisis and issues communications.
FALLS CHURCH, VA—Global government services provider DynCorp International has appointed Ashley Vanarsdall Burke as senior director, media communications. She will develop media communications strategy, manage the company's external media relations, and serve as the company’s corporate spokesperson. Before joining DI, Burke was the Executive Vice President of Prism Public Affairs, a public affairs firm in Washington, D.C., where she provided strategic counsel to corporations, non-profits, associations and coalitions.
NORFOLK, VA—Portfolio Recovery Associates, which purchases and manages portfolios of defaulted consumer receivables and provides a broad range of receivables management and payments processing services, has appointed Tanya Madison as vice president, corporate communications. Madison's responsibilities include directing all strategic internal and external communications, including organizational communications, public relations, media relations, brand communications, investor relations, and public affairs. She reports to Steven Fredrickson, PRA's chairman, president and chief executive officer. Prior to joining PRA, she was first vice president, external affairs for Chase Card Services, the credit card division of JPMorgan Chase & Co.
CHICAGO—General Growth Properties, which has ownership interest in or management responsibility for more than 200 regional shopping malls in 43 states, has named Mark Pfeifer, currently vice president of strategic communications, head of marketing and corporate communications. He replaces Wally Brewster. Pfeifer joined GGP in 2002 as vice president of corporate advertising and branding. Previously, he worked at advertising agencies including BBDO Worldwide, Euro RSCG and Foote Cone & Belding.
ATLANTA—The Greenguard Environmental Institute has appointed Mark Rossolo as director of public affairs. Rossolo will lead GEI's strategic outreach and advocacy efforts, representing Greenguard on the national, state, and local levels and campaigning on behalf of the organization to drive public awareness about indoor air quality issues. He will also be responsible for building relationships with key external stakeholders and influencers in the sustainable design and green building industries. Most recently, he managed public outreach and advocacy for the Green Building Initiative, one of the largest green building organizations in the U.S.
