Desmond Joins Toy Industry Assn to Lead External Affairs

The Toy Industry Association has hired Edward Desmond as executive vice president, external affairs, a new position. Desmond joins TIA from the Entertainment Software Association, where he was senior vice president, government affairs.

NEW YORKThe Toy Industry Association has hired Edward Desmond as executive vice president, external affairs, a new position. Desmond joins TIA from the Entertainment Software Association, where he was senior vice president, government affairs, a post he held since 2000.

 

Desmond will initially be located in Washington, D.C., where he will become the consistent voice and representative of the toy industry in the legislative and regulatory arenas. He will also organize and oversee the TIA’s ongoing efforts to address legislative challenges at the state level utilizing the resources of the TIA’s seasoned government affairs staff as well as outside counsel. 

 

Desmond began his career as legislative counsel for Rep. Henry Hyde, the former Republican Congressman representing the northern suburbs of Chicago. He subsequently served as Director, Government Affairs for several large corporations, including Ciba-Geigy and Hoffman-La Roche, before assuming his position at ESA in 2000. 

 

He joins TIA following the passage of new federal legislation (the Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act) that presents the toy industry with a whole new range of legal requirements,
