AUSTIN—Tim Doke, a veteran of senior corporate communications positions at American Airlines and Dell Computer, has joined Freescale Semiconductor, a spin-off from telecommunications giant Motorola that is preparing for a public offering.

Doke will report to Freescale chief executive Michel Mayer and will oversee internal and external communications, government relations, public affairs and community relations.

At Dell, Doke was vice president of communications, responsible for the computer manufacturer’s financial and general media relations; public affairs, including the nonprofit Michael and Susan Dell Foundation; employee communications; and “executive visibility” programs for Michael Dell, chairman and CEO, and Kevin Rollins, president and chief operating officer.

He joined from American Airlines, where he had been vice president of corporate communications under Robert Crandall and Don Carty. Earlier, he held corporate positions at Alaska Airlines and Brinker International, and on the agency side of the business at Carl Byoir & Associates and Hill & Knowlton.
