WASHINGTON, D.C.—Bob McKernan has joined Edelman Public Relations Worldwide as president of Blue, the firm’s advertising agency. McKernan was previously a partner at Smith & Harroff, an independent public affairs advertising and communications firm.

Edelman also announced that vice chairman Michael Deaver will assume additional responsibilities as vice chairman of Blue, focusing on strategy and the integration of its services into multi-disciplinary communications offerings to Edelman clients.

“We intend to build a unique advertising company, focused on helping companies, industries and causes position themselves to more effectively pursue both business and public affairs objectives,” Deaver says.

At Smith & Harroff, McKernan served as the creative director of campaigns that earned multiple awards. His experience includes work in the telecommunications, health care, energy and transportation sectors, among others. Also, for the past three election cycles, McKernan has been a member of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s issue advertising team.
