LONDON--EDF Energy is reviewing its UK consumer PR brief, with Weber Shandwick set to defend its three-year hold on the six-figure brief.
The French company, one of the UK's largest energy suppliers, has briefed numerous firms for an assignment that has aimed to improve its reputation and commitment to sustainability.
An EDF Energy press officer confirmed the review, while Weber Shandwick consumer marketing MD Rachel Friend told the Holmes Report that the agency will take part in the pitch. The firm's three-year contract with the company is due to expire soon.
Weber Shandwick helped oversee EDF Energy's successful London 2012 sponsorship programme, which recently won a bronze Cannes Lion. The firm also played a role on its Team Green Britain initiative, which won a Gold SABRE Award for CSR.
EDF, which operates the UK's eight nuclear power stations, has been locked in a lengthy battle against climate change campaigners in the country. Earlier this year, the energy giant shelved plans to sue protesters that shut down the company’s new West Burton gas-fired power station last October.
The company is currently proceeding with plans to build the UK's first new nuclear station in decades, in Somerset, amid disapproval from environmental groups.
