LOS ANGELES—Former Speaker of the California Assembly Robert Hertzberg has joined Fleishman-Hillard in Los Angeles as a senior consultant. Hertzberg, a partner in the government practice group of international law firm Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw, will offer FH clients counsel based on his high-level government experience in Sacramento and knowledge of the emerging issues in Los Angeles, California and the nation.

Hertzberg was first elected to the assembly in 1996 and quickly rose through the ranks to hold leadership positions. He was chairman of the assembly committee on public safety from 1997 to 1998, chairman of the assembly’s powerful rules committee from 1998 to 2000, and was unanimously elected Speaker in 2000.

He led the state’s lower house during California’s energy crisis and during his final months in office was deeply involved in statewide water issues.
