TORONTO — Former Edelman exec Rick Murray has surfaced in a dual role as managing partner of National PR’s Toronto office as well as becoming the chief digital strategist for the firm.

Murray spent more than a decade at Edelman, most recently as president of midwest region — a position he relinquished in March. Since then, Murray had been consulting until taking the role at National. During his his 13-year tenure at Edelman he also served president of digital until 2010 and was previously a managing director at Golin.

In his new role, Murray will be responsible for growing the office's volume of business and expanding the service offering. As chief digital strategist, he’s been tasked with developing and implementing a firm-wide social/digital strategy, as well as being responsible for Sonic Boom, National’s digital marketing subsidiary. He’ll work closely with Norm Melamed, managing director of Sonic Boom.

Murray starts on December 3. Meanwhile, John Crean, who was interim managing partner of National’s Toronto office since the beginning of the year, will turn his full attention to his duties as national managing partner. National PR is part of the RES Publica Consulting Group.
