Former USDA Press Secretary Harrison Joins APCO

Alisa Harrison, former director of communications and press secretary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is joining APCO Worldwide as vice president.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Alisa Harrison, former director of communications and press secretary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is joining APCO Worldwide as vice president. Harrison will provide APCO’s clients with strategic counsel in developing and implementing media and public affairs programs.

At the USDA, Harrison acted as the primary spokesperson for the department and provided strategic communication counsel to the Secretary of Agriculture, Ann Veneman. As director of the office of communications, Harrison led the development of communication policy for more than 300 programs administered by the USDA, including: nutrition education; the National School Lunch Program and Food Stamp Program; food aid; agricultural trade; farm programs; natural resources and conservation; food safety for meat, poultry and egg products; protection of animal and plant health; regulation of biotechnology; and housing, broadband, energy and water programs for rural America.

Prior to joining USDA in 2001, Harrison spent 15 years at the National Cattleman’s Beef Association, the largest trade association for beef cattle producers, where she was executive director of public relations at NCBA.
