WASHINGTON D.C.—Porter Novelli Washington has hire Kathleen Harrington as senior vice president of public affairs and director of policy outreach. Harrington currently serves as assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Labor, and will join Porter Novelli at the end of June.

A Washington veteran with experience with the Administration, Congress, national politics and trade associations, Harrington will provide strategic counsel to clients on public affairs, media relations, health care and other issues as part of the Porter Novelli public affairs practice.

As assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Labor, Harrington serves as principal advisor to Secretary Elaine Chao, and manages the Department’s communications and media relations. Harrington also oversees the outreach campaign to Department of Labor constituencies.

Prior to joining the Department, Harrington focused on health policy issues at the Health Insurance Association of America and Aetna, where she managed federal, legislative and public affairs departments.  During her tenure at Aetna, she served as issue manager on health care, Medicare, financial services, pension reform, and retirement security and Social Security reform. She also served as deputy campaign communications manager for the Elizabeth Dole for President campaign.

“The addition of Kathleen Harrington gives Porter Novelli’s public affairs group an experienced Washington public affairs official with strong ties to both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue and to key organizations in Washington,” says Donna Lucas, partner and public affairs practice leader.  “Her expertise in health policy, retirement security and financial services will benefit a range of current and future PNPA clients.”
