ALEXANDRIA, VAThe Hawthorn Group has added two senior vice presidents and new members of its executive council, Angela Rae and John Shanahan.

An attorney by education, Rae spent 14 years as news anchor on CBS affiliates in New York and Miami and as a reporter for the ABC affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi. She started her career with Allstate and organized The Corporate Council on Africa’s most recent conference. In her new role, she will head Hawthorn’s consumer practice, crisis management and media training.

Shanahan has two decades of experience working major energy and environmental public policy issues, and joins from Capitol Hill where he most recently served for five years as counsel to the U. S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee.  He earlier served as director of air quality for the National Mining Association. He will head Hawthorn’s energy and environmental practice and congressional advocacy.

The firm has also added four new associates—Scott Douglass, Jerri Anne Henry, Adnan Papovic, and Anthony Sowah--and three senior counselors: Congressman Jack Buechner; Rex Kelly, who recently retired after decades heading communications and external affairs at Mississippi Power; and Rick Pate, who took an early retirement from Southern Company in Atlanta where he was heading their grassroots communications.
