NEW YORK—Middleberg Communications, the New York-based agency led by Don Middleberg (pictured), has acquired competitor G.S. Schwartz & Co.
The acquisition comes just weeks after the departure of Scott Sunshine, previously a principal and senior managing director at Middleberg, and Andrew Healy, previously a senior director, to launch Water & Wall Group, a new firm with a focus on business-to-business financial services.
The acquisition of Schwartz, led by New York public relations industry veteran Jerry Schwartz—who will become a senior counselor at Middleberg—brings with it a team of eight and a client list that includes Reader's Digest and the Toy Industry Association.
In the seven years since he launched his new firm (after selling his previous agency, Middleberg & associates, to Havas), Middleberg has made several acquisitions, including financial PR firm The Weiser Group, and The Towers Group, which worked primarily with clients in the professional and financial services sectors. The firm also partners with social media specialist Laundry Service.
