SAN FRANCISCO—Veteran public relations executive Jonelle Birney Sullivan—who has held senior communications positions with PR agencies Blanc & Otus and Fleishman-Hillard and telecommunications company MCI—has been named general manager of the new San Francisco office of Environics Communications.
Established in 1994, Environics serves clients in the technology and telecommunications, sustainability and clean energy, health sciences, consumer goods & services, financial services, and association and nonprofit sectors. Headquartered in Toronto, the firm now has more than 100 people, with additional offices in Montreal and Washington, DC.
The firm already has several clients based in the San Francisco area, including biotechnology company Genencor, technology firm JDSU, and the national headquarters of children’s literacy nonprofit Raising A Reader. In addition, Environics represents several national organizations whose members are located on the West Coast, such as the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, the Biotechnology Industry Organization, and the Electric Drive Transportation Association.
Sullivan has been serving as partner in her own consulting firm, Sullivan Birney Communications. Before that, she was CEO of San Francisco-based technology public relations agency Blanc & Otus, owned by Hill & Knowlton, and earlier worked with global PR agencies Ogilvy & Mather and Fleishman-Hillard, serving clients such as Anheuser-Busch, MasterCard, the NCAA, Novell, Sybase, the USO, and the Vision Industry Council of America.
Sullivan was also vice president of public relations at MCI Communications (now Verizon), where she oversaw public relations for the company’s consumer, business, public affairs, investor relations, and technologies divisions.
