CHICAGO—Lawn care leader The Scotts Company, best known for its Miracle-Gro and Ortho brands, has selected Edelman as its agency of record following a comprehensive review process.

With approximately $1.9 billion in sales, the Scotts Company is the world’s leader in the consumer lawn and garden market. Edelman will provide product marketing and corporate reputation support in the U.S. and Europe.

“We selected Edelman because its proposed strategic program and depth of resources were a perfect fit for our needs,” said Jim King, director of investor relations and corporate communications for Scotts.  “Edelman will help us to effectively communicate the strength of our corporate brand to a broad range of audiences, while adding consumer marketing energy to our family of lawn and garden products and services.”

Prior to retaining Edelman, Scotts utilized the services of several public relations firms.

The account will be lead by Mark Shadle, executive vice president and managing director of corporate affairs at Edelman, supported by staff in the firm’s offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, London and Washington, D.C.  Edelman’s research firm, StrategyOne, will provide research and measurement services.

Says Shadle, “The big opportunity here is to advance the Scotts reputation by engaging the full spectrum of stakeholders—associates, consumers, retailers, investors, environmentalists, policy makers—and help them more fully understand the core values and vision of this great company.”
