SEATLLE—Waggener Edstrom Strategic Communications has hired Kathleen Larey Lewton as a senior vice president in its bioscience practice. Lewton is the author of Public Relations in Health Care: A Guide for Professionals and a past national president of Public Relations Society of America, and has held senior healthcare positions at Porter Novelli and Fleishman-Hillard.

Lewton will be based in Waggener Edstrom’s New York Metro office and will serve as the agency’s East Coast bioscience leader. She will support existing bioscience clients and will play an integral role in new-business outreach and development in biotech, medical device, provider, health association, pharmaceutical and payer industries.

“Kathy is a true leader in the field of life-science communications,” said Jenny Moede, senior vice president and director of Waggener Edstrom Bioscience. “She adds a wealth of communications and industry knowledge to our team that will be of immediate value to existing clients, and will support practice expansion into new clinical areas.”

Lewton was most recently at Hill & Knowlton, where she served as senior vice president in the healthcare practice. Before starting her agency career, she served as senior vice president of public relations as Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York and vice president of public relations and corporate communications at University Hospitals of Cleveland.

“There are significant opportunities for Waggener Edstrom to further develop its bioscience practice in the Eastern region, specifically in New York and Boston,” said Lewton.
