SAN FRANCISCO, July 20—With Brunswick Group expanding its New York operations, Text 100 opening new offices around the country, and Chime acquiring Boston’s LNS Communications, the second British invasion is well underway. Now Lexis Communications Group, one of London’s largest independents, is opening its first overseas office in San Francisco.

Lexis, founded in 1992 by Bill Jones and Tim Adams, has fees of around $6.5 million and about 70 employees. With clients such as AA.com, Barclaycard, Guinness UDV, Nike, NTL and Powergen, Lexis is probably best known in the U.K. for its consumer brand building work, but it has expanded its technology and e-commerce practices and its new Bay Area operation will focus on the technology market.

Alice Chan Heckman, a former director of Lexis in the U.K., will lead the office. Heckman has also worked for Interactive Public Relations and TSI Communications.

According to Jones, “This move supports our strategic decision to expand the Lexis business internationally. By extending our brand into new markets such as North America, we are getting closer to our goal of providing high caliber global service to our existing and prospective clients. The opening of our first U.S. office signals our intent to achieve this goal.”

Heckman says the firm that while it would be nice to serve U.K. clients in the U.S. also, that won’t be the focus of the firm in the first few months of its existence. Its first client will be xSides Corporation, a Seattle-based software company.

“We wanted to work with a strategic PR partner that was hungry for our business and committed to delivering the type of results that will have a real impact on our business,” says Sean Pak, VP of marketing at xSides. “We have worked with a number of agencies in the past and none of them share Lexis’ energy, strategic approach and understanding of what it takes to get the job done.”
