Marathon Oil Corporation has named Howard Thill, currently director of investor relations, as its new vice president of investor relations and public affairs, who will succeed Kenneth Matheny on his retirement, effective December 31.

HOUSTON—Marathon Oil Corporation has named Howard Thill, currently director of investor relations, as its new vice president of investor relations and public affairs, who will succeed Kenneth Matheny on his retirement, effective December 31.

Matheny joined Marathon in 1977 as an advanced tax analyst in the company’s Findlay, Ohio, and held positions in corporate finance and human resources, before being named vice president of investor relations for USX in 2000, and in 2002 was named to the same role at Marathon Oil following the reorganization and renaming of USX to Marathon Oil Corporation. He was appointed to his current position in 2003.

Thill began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company in 1982 as a drilling fluids engineer and held positions of increasing responsibility in natural gas operations, federal and international tax, chemical accounting and international finance. He was named director of investor relations in 1999 and joined Marathon Oil Corporation in 2002 as manager of investor relations. He was appointed to his current position in 2003.
