GURGAON—Microsoft is reviewing PR duties in India, putting incumbent firm IPAN Hill+Knowlton on alert.
IPAN has held the assignment, one of the country's biggest comms accounts, since 2011, when Microsoft parted ways with Text 100 and Genesis Burson-Marsteller. The agency's remit covers consumer, B2B and corporate/citizenship, and is estimated at more than $500k.
IPAN will defend the business in a pitch that is thought to include four other agencies. The review follows the arrival last year of Gayatri Rath as Microsoft India's director of corporate communications and citizenship, succeeding Meenu Handa, who had earlier left for Amazon.
Rath told the Holmes Report that the company reviews PR duties every three years, according to procurement guidelines.
According to Cyber India, Microsoft's India revenue grew by 13% in 2013, thanks to increased sales to companies and governments.
Last year, Microsoft overhauled its PR roster in China, bringing in Burson-Marsteller, Weber Shandwick and Waggener Edstrom in place of H-Line Ogilvy.
