Nathan Joins UnitedHealth as Chief Communications Officer

UnitedHealth Group has named Don Nathan senior vice president and chief communications officer. He will have responsibility for all internal and external communications and for enhancing the company’s reputation management and communications capabilities.

MINNEAPOLIS—UnitedHealth Group has named Don Nathan senior vice president and chief communications officer. He will have responsibility for all internal and external communications and for enhancing the company’s reputation management and communications capabilities. Nathan was most recently a partner at the Robinson Lerer & Montgomery and has served as interim head of corporate communication for UnitedHealth Group since the end of 2006.

According to Stephen Hemsley, president and chief executive: “Clear, direct communication with all of our constituencies, both external and internal, is vital to our enterprise. Don’s broad experience and the relationships he has built with the senior management team will strengthen our efforts to expand and shape our communications function and structure.”

Nathan joined Robinson Lerer & Montgomery in 1991 and has been a partner at the firm for 10 years, handling corporate planning and positioning assignments, litigation, government investigations, financial transactions, labor relations and public policy. Earlier, he worked on Capitol Hill, serving in a number of different Congressional and campaign capacities, including press secretary, speechwriter, analyst and advisor on domestic and foreign policy issues and political strategist.
